Acoustra

Folk
Limerick, County Limerick
1942

Acoustra are a four-piece group based in Limerick.

With a collective musical experience gained from many years playing covers at home and traveling throughout Europe, Acoustra have started to break new ground with their unique original compositions. These compositions could be loosely categorised as Rock with a Folk/Trad fusion.

Acoustra’s up-tempo recession track “The Way It Used To be” and a dance
beat driven tune, aptly named “Techno Trad”, became fixtures of the RTÉ
Radio one playlist for 4 weeks in the summer of 2011. Acoustra also played
live on Pat Kenny's radio show and several other stations nationwide.

Presently working on a new EP, Acoustra have a repertoire of modern upbeat
songs, bringing a fresh new sound to the Irish music scene.

The band have recently begun a collaboration with an old acquaintance,
Kieran O’Loughlin who recorded and mixed the new EP. Originally from Co
Clare, now living in Sweden, Kieran is himself a well known name on the
European traditional music scene, and is an occasional fifth member of the
band; a power house of a producer musician and singer. He will join them on
stage for any large original performances.

Acoustra are a dedicated hard working band.

In a world of busy family duties and sell-out gigs, Acoustra always ensure they
find time to get together to write, rehearse and come up with new ideas. They work excellently together as a unit. A strength and testament of the band is that all members have been close friends for a long long time before they ever put their heads together as musicians.

Acoustra are Pat Wright (accordion/guitar/vocals), Liam McCarthy (acoustic guitar/bass guitar/banjo/mandolin/whistles/vocals), Brian Bermingham (drums/percussion/vocals) and Dylan Shine (bass guitar/acoustic guitar/piano/vocals). Not content with the instruments they play, all members can mix it up and play various others such as the mandolin, keyboards and whistles (often doing so while playing live, much to the enjoyment of the audience).

The band have performed worldwide and will continue in 2012 to fill up their touring schedules around Ireland, The Uk and Europe. They will also continue with their charity work with The Irish Society of Azerbaijan in Ireland.

With excellent songs and wonderful instrumental tunes, Acoustra will no doubt WOW audiences around the world!
