Amidships
Antrim, County Antrim
Amidships specialise in an infectious blend of atmospheric indie rock and have been compared to the likes of Grandaddy, Pixies, Phoenix, and Band of Horses.
Their debut EP 'Friendly Fire' was released just over a year ago to rave reviews. It garnered airplay across the UK & Ireland on stations such as BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Phantom 105.2 and RTE2XM. Their track 'Sine Waves', taken from that EP, was used on RTE2 television, and the opening track 'The One' was also featured on the cover of Hot Press Magazine.
In their short existence the band have toured Ireland, the UK and the Nordics. They have played with Frightened Rabbit, Elbow, Lisa Hannigan, and featured at festivals such as Glasgowbury and CultureTECH.
In their formative years the band were invited to play a number of festivals aimed at showcasing new artists, festivals such as Hard Working Class Heroes, Liverpool Sound City Showcase, and the IMRO Showcase Tour.
Their latest single, a double A-side released in March 2013 on Dental Records Ireland, is entitled 'Lost // Forever Here' and is available on SoundCloud, Spotify, Amazon and iTunes.
Amidships are a band you will want to see as soon as you possibly can, with their live shows and recorded material consistently receiving rave reviews:
"Amidships continue their unstoppable rise to greatness, with outsider indie shrouded in mystery."
Hot Press Magazine
"An exceptional live performance...absolutely incredible...the vocal delivery is startling...the intensity of the performance amazing."
U&I Magazine
"Amidships are a band that many people will fall in love with, we've already done so."
Phantom 105.2
"I said that they were "one of the most exciting bands to come out of these isles for some time", now that I've had the chance to see them live, I can say that this is not just empty hyperbole: they really are that good."
The Metaphorical Boat Blog
“Beautiful, beautiful stuff.”
The Irish Daily Star
“In a world of different voices, all braying for our attention, Amidships stand out. Voices full of hope, yet tinged with resignation, theirs is the sound of the lost and the melancholy. Lead singer JP McCorley lives through the characters he creates, colouring them like a master dramatist, making them real. This is certainly something special.”
BBC Radio 1 Introducing
"The band have an almost Arcade Fire presence about them, which fills up a venue with nothing but pure musical charm. Their EP, 'The Friendly Fire Sessions' is seven tracks of wonderment and I for one await with bated breath for their next offering."
Clash Music Blog
"It takes a special talent to create a musical world all of your own and Amidships, led by the vulnerably excellent JP McCorley, have built one hell of a fortress. Their EP oozes confidence while flitting between swooping atmospheric guitars and a sense of melancholy that never feels fake. Without doubt one of NI's most exciting prospects. "
Hot Press Magazine
"Downbeat and uplifting at the same time, with threads of Grandaddy & The Beta Band, Amidships bring a warm style of lo-fi rock to the indie genre that you dare not miss out on."
Chordblossom Music Blog
"Amidships touch upon Arcade Fire levels of epic-ness in the G-Sessions tent, the sound bang on, the size of the arena perfect."
Across The Line, BBC Radio Ulster
"A perfect balance of zesty atmospherics and epic rock swings."
Jim Carroll, The Irish Times
