Breathnach are a Dublin based Indie / Folk / Rock band. Front-man Singer/ Songwriter / Guitarist Bryan Walsh form Sandyford Dublin met Lead Guitarist / Singer / Songwriter Paul Walsh from Irishtown Dublin while studying Sound Engineering & Music Production. They struck up a friendship that would see them start a band through similar musical interests and influences i.e. The Beatles, Rollin Stones, Bob Dylan, Oasis and Stone Roses to name a few.
Two of Breathnach’s songs, ‘All Is Not Lost’ and ‘Summertime’ appeared on separate compilation albums. Both albums charted in the Top 5 of the Irish Compilation Charts in recent respective years. After a few name changes for the band, ‘Breathnach’ stuck; which incidentally is Irish for Walsh.
Estonian Bassist Dimitri Retsja was drafted in after impressing during early rehearsals with his versatile approach to bass playing and music. Keith Hatch from Ballyfermot Dublin was recruited on drums after numerous drummers proved to be inconsistent. Keith is the former drummer of My Pyrrhic Victory and toured with them upon their debut album release.
The biggest venues Breathnach have played are Whelan’s, The Button Factory and The Grand Social. Other venues Breathnach have played are Sin E, Crowbar, Sweeney’s, O’Donoghues and Fibbers to name a few.
Breathnach reached the final of The Crystal Skull Sessions at Sin E in April 2016, later that month Breathnach supported Red Empire at The Cross in Drogheda. In May Breathnach performed at King Kong Club in Whelan’s and Supported guitar legend Gerry Quigley and The Shinkickers in Fibbers on the 27th May.
