Chaperones Ireland

Indie // Naas, Kildare

Chaperones formed on a trip to Argentina in January 2008 when Vinny and Alan left Dublin to travel. Armed with a couple of acoustic guitars they spent six months traveling, writing and playing anywhere that would provide them with a stage. Meanwhile back in Ireland Cathal (brother of Alan) had formed a three-piece band with Seery and Stu who had together started to work on tracks of their own. Upon the lads return from South America both groups realized they had been creating similar music and whilst the traveling duo were in need of a rhythm section the others were seeking a lead guitar player and singer. Thus Chaperones were born.

Chaperones recently played an explosive set at Kildare’s ‘Platform V’ festival after being short-listed to perform alongside some of Irelands finest up and coming bands. Previous years in this show have seen bands such as the Kill City Defectors and Miraclebell gain recognition and go on to play at the Oxegen festival. Chaperones were commended for their “GREAT ENERGY” onstage. The Leinster Leader published an article headlined “Chaperones Come Alive in Front of a Crowd” in conjunction with the gig.

Chaperones’ first demo ‘Devil Dressed in Drag’ was recorded at Fastlane Studios in Donabate and has received airplay on Galway FM and Phantom FM. It has been spun in bars in the Tallaght area and has even managed to reach the shores of Argentina where it has been played in the capital’s ‘Wherever’ bar.

The band is currently doing what it does best and performing as much as possible. They gained regular headline slots in Dublins Mezz bar and have played alongside HWCH band Miraclebell. The band have achieved recognition in Argentina and they will return to play some gigs in Buenos Aires in August 2010.
