Formed in 2004, Discovery Gospel Choir is Ireland’s top intercultural choral group. The choir is based in St George & St Thomas’ Church, in the heart of multicultural Dublin and performs across the country sharing its unique message, Discover beauty in everyone, through inspirational and diverse gospel music. Under the direction of Aisling McCormick, the choir has performed through the years for some fascinating public figures such as President Michael D. Higgins, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Rev Dr Jesse Jackson, the Dalai Lama and Northern Ireland Rev Ian Paisley and Sinn Fein’s Gerry Kelly.

Discovery has also sung with some exceptional musicians such as Stevie Wonder, Blind Boys of Alabama, Sinéad O’Connor, Kíla, Bill Whelan and Brendan Graham, Liam Ó Maonlaí, Celtic Woman, Brian Kennedy, Gemma Hayes, Republic of Loose and Foy Vance. In 2012, the choir performed for the Irish launch of Walt Disney’s The Lion King Broadway Show, with members of the West End cast.

The choir has performed a number of times on television, appearing on RTE’s Late Late Show, TV50, Carols from the Fair City, The Cafe and Make Dreams Come True. The choir has also appeared on BBC, Sky One, Sky News, City Channel’s African Eye, TG4, TV3, Washington Post and were the subject of a programme called City Folk which was broadcast across the EU. Discovery has performed many times on radio as well, on programmes such as RTE Radio 1‘s Morning Ireland, Derek Mooney Show, 2FM’s The Tubridy Show, Lyric FM’s Lunchtime Classics Concert, Today FM’s Tony Fenton Show, and Newstalk Radio’s Global Village.

The choir also recorded and released their own album Discovery: Live at the Pavilion, Dublin, which features music from all over the world and in many different languages. Their music and message has brought the choir to many incredible places such as the RDS for the 50th International Eucharistic Congress 2012, Lansdowne Road for the singing of the Ireland V South Africa National Anthems, Croke Park and the Aviva Stadium. Discovery has also performed in the O2, Point Theatre, National Concert Hall, Olympia Theatre, Vicar Street, Button Factory and at the Meteor Music Awards, Electric Picnic, Bloom, Festival of World Cultures, DLR Fusion, MAMA Awards and Africa Day in Farmleigh, Iveagh Gardens, IFSC, George’s Dock and Dublin Castle.

Notably Discovery lives out its ethos by performing in diverse locations such as Mountjoy Prison, Stormont Parliament in Belfast and Mosney Accommodation Centre for asylum seekers, and for events to celebrate International Women’s Day, NGOs such as Trocaire, Concern & ACET and in Áras an Uachtaráin on St Patrick’s Day. Ten years on the choir continues to campaign for issues around reconciliation, integration and justice. It also runs a successful community project, which sees Discovery inspiring schools and community groups in values of inter-culturalism. The choir also performs at weddings and special ceremonies, where their message adds a distinctive quality.

In a new, multicultural Ireland, this exceptional group of 30 singers and musicians from 16 countries, spanning 4 continents, brings to life a vision of hope for this nation.
