Cork singer /songwriter Don murphy has been around the music scene in Cork for many years and is well known in the Cork area. He has played solo and in various bands from Rock, Folk Jazz before going back to his favourite folk , ballads and Trad when he founded the Cork Trad band "Natural Gas" with his close friends Diarmuid Grainger and Tim O' Riordan. He still plays with the electric version of this band. He is a multi instumentalist playing his first instrument Guitar and tenor banjo, fiddle, mandolin,g-banjo, and he also a very accomplished classical guitarist and an electric lead guitarist.
He has travelled extensively in Europe and the United States with "natural gas and other bands. He has worked as a studio session guitarist. He has also been a composer of music and song for all this time and has his songs recorded by Jimmy Crowley. His first solo album "Voices" was recorded in 1997 and featured 9 original tracks. Since then he has written and recorded an alternative anthem for the Munster rugby team when they first won the Heineken Cup in 2005. This song called "Men of Munster was chosen by John Creedon as his song on his radio show and Don has had the privilege of playing the song in a packed Thomond Park to the Munster fans on the team's final league game that year against Cardiff Blues.
A keen Glasgow Celtic fan his song "The Wizard Of the Wing" a tribute to the late Jimmy Johnstone was used by Celtic in their "History" DVD. This song is on his latest album "Along the Enchanted Way" along with "The Troubadour" which won the 2009 Sean McCarthy Memorial Song Contest in Finnuge Co. Kerry.
