mister ebby :: piano chamber pop

mister ebby is an Irish pianist and songwriter from Galway, who explores the space between classical music and pop songwriting, drawing influence from chamber pop and indie folk as well as from contemporary classical composers.

A piano student from a very young age, mister ebby always deviated from his classical training throughout his studies, drawn to musical theatre, pop music, and improvisation. He wrote the music for his first full show at the age of 15 when the drama group he was a member of needed music written for a musical production. Since then, he has been writing songs and instrumental piano works, as well as working as Musical Director for a number of shows, and writing choral arrangements for various choirs and productions.

His 2011 debut album, Wires, drew on a worldwide fanbase to crowdfund a portion of the recording costs using the Irish crowdfunding website Fundit.ie, with support coming from Alaska to Sydney. The record sees him exploring his chamber pop sound further in a jazz piano trio set up with a classical cellist.

Since the recording of his album, he has played headline gigs in Dublin and Galway, as well as a showcase at the Cork Jazz Festival. He recently performed a solo show as part of the inaugural Galway Fringe, as well as collaborating with a new contemporary dance company for three shows as part of that festival also. When he is not playing live around Ireland, he is often found doing hangout concerts on Google+ where he performs from his home and broadcasts the concert online.

Currently, he is planning his next full album, as well as working on a collection of instrumental piano works, and looking at developing other performances in collaboration with the Off Beaten Path contemporary dance company.
