mynameisjOhn + God Knows
Poverty, County Clare
God Knows and mynameisjOhn. The Lethal Weapon II of hiphop music in Ireland. Two Clare men with a thirst for the ruckus. Following on from their 2013 collaboration with producer Graeme S, ‘The Struggle EP’, these two are keen to keep things focused and continue on pushing buttons and boundaries. With an album near completion and due for release in April 2014, mynameisjOhn and God Knows channel the energy of grime, juke, electronica and hiphop to present their own unique view of contemporary urban music in Ireland. Their live-show is uncontested in terms of raw gusto and intensity, performing all over the country at venues and festivals such as Electric Picnic, The Senses Festival, Dolans Warehouse and the Twisted Pepper. Their ultimate goal is to star in the remake of ‘Hear No Evil, See No Evil’.
God Knows is rapidly becoming one of the most electrifying souls in music in Ireland. An MC with no concern for limitations, he has consistently smashed all live-shows and guest appearances around the country. Along with being the founding member of Shannon’s ‘Random Acts Of Kindness’ collective, his unique MC fusion of grime, rap and spoken word has firmly established him as one of the most formidable front-men in Ireland.
mynameisjOhn grew up on the cold hard streets of Ennis, headphones on and hood up. He collected tapes, played basketball and entered radio competitions. Now he DJs and makes beats. In between, he did a lot of shows with a lot of people and practiced everyday. He’s released 3 solo EPs, which both reference his grá for a dollop of hiphop, electronica, psych rock and straight-up paranoia. But it’s in a live context that he really shines. He puts it all in. And he’s done a lot of shows, supporting folk like Daedelus, Gaslamp Killer, Hudson Mohawke, Onra, Ras G, Luke Vibert, Om Unit, Prefuse 73, Benga, The Pharcyde, Andy Votel, Jeremy Ellis, Adebisi Shank and the like.
