County Meath

Protocol are a young, talented, up and coming 5 piece rock band from North Meath. Established in 2011, the lads got together through their local secondary school and started playing and gigging together. Drawing on their previous experience as musicians in a Johnny Cash Tribute Band and Meath Harp Ensemble, they were able to use their versatility to take their hand at perfecting different genres of rock music ranging from Jimmy Hendrix to Bob Marley to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. It was only in the early months of 2012 that the lads decided to start writing their own material. Comprising of the song writing abilities and telepathic understanding between brothers Jonny (Drummer) and Jamie (Lead Guitarist) Byrne, the lightning agility and pure soul and rhythm of Aidan (Bassist) Tobin and the silky smooth yet crisp voice and fluid guitar playing of Shane (Lead Singer) Taaffe, early sessions have been productive for the band. Along with their three way harmonies and ability to exploit dynamics and re occurring themes to write well crafted songs, the lads have come up with a range of original songs that showcase their wide ranging influences. In the summer of 2012, female vocalist Karen Williams joined the band, adding her powerful, soulful voice and mature lyric writing to their repertoire.
