Reader's Wives are the kind of band we've all missed from the independent music scene. Their avant garde pop music is the result of the four people involved, both musically and socially. They are Dubliners Niall James Holohan, Chris Morrin, Paul Shanahan & Disko, and Reader's Wives is where these four guys’ hectic lives meet.
In 2008, songwriter Niall James Holohan produced an album of his best twelve tunes with a view to starting a band called Reader's Wives. Once tracked, Niall passed rough mixes of the album among friends in the Dublin underground, looking for the right combination of beautiful madheads to build on it's musical blueprint of eclectic, tidy indie rock tunes with teeth. The band took to the road, fast becoming one of Ireland's most active bands in Europe.
Eighteen months on, Reader's Wives are now a fiercely independent four piece with a sound like no other indie rock band doing the rounds. Following two memorable nights at Electric Picnic last summer, their debut 'Secrecy & Sex' EP was released to critical acclaim in Ireland, the UK and Europe in November 2009. Their debut EP was closely followed by the release of their second 'Victor's Mother Juliet' in March of 2010 & as with the release of the first, the Wives played weekends in both the UK & Ireland to promote the release, making friends & collecting fans along the way.
Now, knee deep in the recording of a brand new album & with summer festivals including Oxegen & Castlepalooza on the horizon, the Wives are set to kick things up a level. The album, tentatively entitled 'Rachel's Apartment' was written in it's entirety at the band's squat off Dublin's Dame Street where they lived for much of the past year. The artwork for the album has been created by local indie club Tranmissions' in house photographer Kevin Breen.
'Light Up' is the flagship single from the album & will be released in late 2010. As with their EPs, the single will arrive augmented by the kind of fun & active campaign that sets them apart from their contemporaries. The album will follow in the Autumn of this year too. Plug in to ensure you don't miss out on the rise of Ireland's finest four piece.
