stephen james music
dublin, County Dublin
Stephen James is best described as a rootsy folky earthy wandering minstrel.
As much at home singing in a small room by the fire as he is on the main stage at the largest of festivals, comfortable in the freedom that music herself delivers.
Growing up in a home where it was second nature to play or sing ,Stephens early introductions to music varied daily, from folk infused traditional music, to the rock and roll, blues, country and beautiful 60s sound loved by his parents.
It wasn't until his mid twenties that Stephen began to play guitar ,but upon playing his first few chords,he instinctively began to write, drawing on the many colorful stories that he had amassed during his formative years.
Moving to Galway for a spell, Stephen had a weekly residency in The Crane Bar, ,a regular slot at The Roisin Dubh, and ended up playing Main Stage at The Volvo Ocean Race 2011. He received a personal invitation to play for the President himself in The Aras.
He is currently residing in Dublin where he is promoting his EP, recorded with Gavin Glass. (Orphan Recording Studios)
New Years Eve 2013 Stephen was invited to play MIX TAPE in Vicar Street with with Lisa Hannigan, Paul Noonan, Jerry Fish, Wallis Bird and a host of other Irish acts. In his short time in Dublin ,Stephen has become a regular on the singer songwriter circuit in the city ,with numerous appearances at The Ruby Sessions, Whelans Song Cycle, The Grand Social , The Apollo Sessions and many more. This year he has played The Electric Picnic ( one hour full band slot Salty Dog Stage), The Sea Sessions Bundoran and Stephen and band were picked as one of the top 5 must see acts at The Spirit Of Folk Festival .
