The Awkward Silence
Swords, County Dublin
The Awkward Silence were formed in late 2010 by Guitarist, Conor, and Drummer, Lee. They recruited a bassist, Inga, and singer, Philip, soon after. All members had all previously attended St. Finians Commuinity College in Swords and had all recently split from recent bands which had crossed paths in the past. After a few months of doing covers etc. they began to write original material. They played a few small shows around Dublin and gathered a small following of hardcore fans. In early 2011 they recruited a rhythm guitarist, Dave, who had been in a band with Conor before they split.
With a more full sound now the extra guitar was added they started penning some more of their own songs. After some weeks of intense writing they had a large number of original songs ready to record. In April 2011 they started recording their EP at Paul Woodward Studios in Blanchardstown. The 5 songs on the EP were chosen from the many others that had been written over the previous weeks. Recording was finished mid-May. The EP was launched at a show in Swords in The Slaughtered Lamb with a great reception from both fans and newcomers alike. The Awkward Silence are currently playing shows around Ireland and their popularity is on the rise in the Alternative Rock Scene.
