Trap Door

Alternative // Dublin, Dublin

Dublin trio Trap Door combine a rich mix of punk, folk, ska and hip-hop with insightful flowing and streetwise lyrics. In a similar approach of one Jamie T, Trap Door take the listener rumbustious rattle through urban life, something borne out on their excellent debut EP, Lata Town. With songs of lyrical depth, plenty of youthful lairiness and rebelliousness; Trap Door are a band to contend with

Reviews

"There's a lot of subtlety about Trap Door and their mix of punk, metal and ska.’In Your Smokey Little Room' opens with a dinky guitar riff and engaging vocals.’Extra Extra' gets more into fuzz-metal territory and pounds along, overflowing with a manic energy, a quirky Devo-esque feel and post-watershed words. It's brilliant and justifies its five minutes of your time. 'Radio' skates along as a frantic ska workout that’s more than merely infectious."

- Jackie Hayden, chosen as Pick of The Fortnight, Hot Press Magazine.

"Strummer lives! It’s enough to make Terry Hall smile. Fecking good stuff. Thanks to the lads for writing some songs about this septic isle. Fuck the recession!"

- Alan Corr, Feature writer/music columnist, RTÉ Guide.

“For those that miss the beautiful danceable aura of Ska music, Trap Door embodies the heart and soul of the genre while adding their own modern twist. Judging by their debut 'Triple Drop' EP, it will be this little Irish band that will have everybody skankin' in the streets again.”

Trap Door take the listener rumbustious rattle through urban life, combing a rich mix of punk, folk, ska and hip-hop with insightful flowing and streetwise lyrics, complemented perfectly by rich and catchy melodies.
The Lata Town EP has plenty of substance too with songs of lyrical depth dealing with wasted youth, social inadequacies and a generation lost between the cracks. It is given an added bite too with plenty of youthful lairiness and rebelliousness on show.
An excellent first shot across the bow, it will be intriguing to see how they and their sound evolves. You can catch them playing in The Mezz every second Wednesday, where they are now resident.
