Zinc

Rock // Galway, Galway

Formed in 2014, Zinc combine hypnotic grooves with raw textures to bring the listener on a trip. Stylistically, their music is under the wide umbrella of post-rock, but hip-hop and electronica also play a huge role in defining their sound.
The band is made up of three distinct elements. Andrew Madec, in his approach to the bass guitar, throws all preconceptions out the window. With an array of effects pedals at his fingertips, he creates lush, dreamy textures. Underneath this is the minimal drumming of Simon Kenny, providing a powerful bedrock for Aengus Hackett's gritty guitar playing and wonky effects loops. Put these three ingredients together, and you get Zinc – exhilarating post-rock, with the melodic side of electronica and the roughness of hip-hop.

Most recently, the trio has recorded a seven track album at Meadows Studio in Co. Wicklow, with Irish music scene stalwart Rian Trench. Zinc will release this debut album with a tour in October 2016, including a show at the Galway Jazz Festival.
