A Band Called Paul

Based in Dublin, Ireland, A Band Called Paul was formed in 2018 by soundtrack composer and former orchestral percussionist Paul McDonnell. The band's music reflects the variety and depth of Paul's musical career mixing up hard rock, Latin jazz, indie rock, lounge, pop, electronica and world music.

A Band Called Paul released its debut album, "Primero", in February 2019. He has released 14 singles to date including four collaborations with American rapper Joel I.D. and two with UK musician GLU. He has also produced a single, "Cabin In The Woods" for Irish singer/songwriter Rhesus Freak.

In 2022, Paul was nominated as “Best International Male Artist” at the UK’s Radio Wigwam Awards. He has been selected twice by Tom Robinson for inclusion the BBC Radio 6 show “BBC Introducing” and has featured in both Hot Press and Totally Dublin magazines in Ireland.

A Band Called Paul commenced live performances in 2023 as a five piece band with a debut in the legendary Abbey Tavern in Howth, Dublin, and have enjoyed standing ovations from each of their capacity crowds since.

In early 2025 the band were invited to record at Windmill Lane Recording Studios in Dublin and are currently finalising two tracks from those sessions for release in September 2025.
