A Lethal Black Ooze

Garage // Waterford City, Waterford

Rippin’ through the air to deliver the finest in crushed broken tones, A Lethal Black Ooze, the sonic brainchild of Garage Rock aficionado Andy McGurk [formerly of Spies], is oozing to have a busy '23.

A pandemic sanity project with collaboration at its core and a fondness for dirty, ‘keep it real’ recording methods, A Lethal Black Ooze embody the Garage Punk genre with a howling mix of overdriven guitars, modulation effects and a fondness for the lower side of the fidelity spectrum.

The three piece band, led by Andy and made up of a revolving door of his close friends are set to release their debut self-titled EP 'A Lethal Black Ooze' Q4 2023.

Featured on the EP alongside Andy’s relentless down-strokes and quasi-confident shrieks is the jittery production know-how of Jamie Hyland [M(h)aol & Gilla Band's 'Holding Hands with Jamie' Jamie], and the sluggish groove master Iain Faulkner [Tau & the Drones of Praise, Live sound with Gurriers, Glasshouse & The Mary Wallopers]. Together, the trio have gathered to offer a rich slice of scuzzed out tube distortion, ready-salted with a dash of anxiety.

First and second offerings 'I Like to Feel Alright' and 'Something On Her Mind' have hit the ground running, listeners, journals and radio stations alike were advised to play it LOUD and they did!

'There's some energy off this I tell yeh, I tell yeh that's some energy' - Kieran McGuinness [Radio Nova]

'A majestic form of loud' - Kate Brennen-Harding [2XM]

'Noisy garage sound that is just so awesome' - Barra Carlin [Who Art Thou? Podcast]

'Trust us, turn it up REAL loud!' - Finbar Hoban [Finbar Hoban Presents]

'A Lethal Black Ooze arrive in style on this psych ripper, more of this please' - Andrew Lambert [Headstuff.org]

'...and it is some noisy goodness! To me, a real refreshing sound...' - Cone McCaslin [Sum41 / Cone's Cave - 94.9 The Rock, Toronto]

'We could all learn from that ethos. There's a lot of bands aiming for that 'Nuggets' style garage sound currently and A Lethal Black Ooze authentically nail it because of that mindset. As Nietzsche said "One must still have chaos in oneself to give birth to a dancing star." We love this star and look forward to the EP which will also get a vinyl release' - Richard Blowes [Blowtorch Records]

'...the song (Something On Her Mind) is a great big dirty blues/garage rock track that's elevated by a neat psychedelic edge.' - Garry Baylon [The Goo Dublin]

'They’ve got a look that’s authentic and a sound that’s addictive. Like a shot of adrenaline right into your veins. A piercing sound that will rip you to shreds and leave nothing but a Lethal Black Ooze emerging from your organs.' - Robert Byrne [Void Magazine]
