As If I Always Knew

Acoustic // Cork City, Cork // He/Him

As If I Always Knew is a semi improvised piano project by Cian Sweeney, recorded and filmed live from his own studio space, Birds Of Paradise, in Cork, Ireland. There are no second takes, no edits - just the piano, the moment, and whatever happens when his hands touch the keys; embracing imperfection, spontaneity, and the space between the notes.

For years, Cian was a touring session pianist, moving from stage to stage, adapting his playing to fit different artists and styles before moving to the studio, producing and shaping music for others. His work as a platinum-certified producer and the creative force behind 1000 Beasts earning well over 140 million streams.

As If I Always Knew is Cian’s way of going back to the music he made when he was young - before being shaped by expectations or outside influence. It’s a return to the unique voice he’s always had at the piano, but was too afraid to share. A voice that’s raw, unconventional, and unlike anything around him. The kind of voice that comes out when he’s improvising in the middle of the night while everyone else is asleep and it’s just him and the piano. A voice he's always had, as if he always knew.

Live performance is at the heart of As If I Always Knew. It’s not about a setlist or a show - it’s about being in the moment. With a focus on performing at arts festivals or alternative spaces, the audience lies on yoga mats, eyes closed, while Cian improvises around themes they choose, creating something completely unique each time. Sound baths and deep, resonant tones help bring a sense of stillness and presence. It’s less about performing and more about feeling - about letting the music happen and just being there with it.

As If I Always Knew's debut EP is set for release in late summer 2025, with press support from Louise Barker.

This will be accompanied by a series of intimate live performances across Ireland, bringing As If I Always Knew to audiences in unique, personal spaces. The first of these took place in Prim’s Bookshop in Kinsale in Spring 2025, with more shows planned at arts festivals and select venues throughout the year.
