Barnburner

Folk // Dublin // He/Him, She/Her

Barnburner is a musical duo consisting of David McGuane and Pippa Molony. They make music in an alternative, folk-leaning style.

Officially forming in November 2022, Barnburner pull from an eclectic pool of influences to produce their unique new sound: the pairing of soft, emotional vocals and melancholic songwriting with intricate guitar instrumentation. Their upcoming EP, ‘Nothing to Hold’, is a four track project that best encapsulates their artistic style. It is set to be released in June 2024. The EP features artwork by artist Carmen Quigley and experimental post-production by Operator Theatre (Dan O’Brien) and Paradise Studios (Greg Tisdall).

To date, Barnburner have solely performed in the Cobblestone Backroom: at the Thre’penny Sessions, April 2023 - before forming officially as a duo - and at the 'from the River, to the Sea’ event in aid of Palestinian Aid alongside contemporaries Aoife Wolf, Méabh McKenna and Fulacht Fiadh (Ivan Pawle), November 2023. Because they are fresh to the scene, they have been selective about their exposure. They will soon support Jamie D’arcy at his EP release gig in Anseo Bar, Camden Street on Tuesday, March 26 and play alongside Banríon at Phizzfest 2024 (the Hut, Sunday May 12). They are also scheduled to perform at the annual Stoneybatter festival, on a street-party lineup TBA, organised by Nina Fitzgerald Graham.
