Black Violets formed at the beginning of 2017. Based out of Cork city, the 4 piece have spent the majority of that time forming their alternative/electro/post punk sound. Citing early 80’s bands such as Joy Division and The Cure as influences, leaning towards the 90’s Manchester music scene (Stone Roses, Happy Mondays) as well as modern day outfits such as Kasabian, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and LCD Soundsystem. Having played numerous gigs in Cork city including headline slots at the Crane Lane Theatre , a slot followed in The Button Factory which has seen them mentioned in the Irish Daily Star as ones to watch in 2019.
Their debut single "Falling On The Radio" (Recorded with Ciaran O Shea in Whitewell Studios) was released on the 27th September 2019 and peaked at No.2 in the Irish Alternative iTunes charts and No.10 in the overall iTunes Irish charts. The track has already received an excellent response, having being played on 2FM (Dan Hegarty), KCLR FM (chosen as song of the week 04.09.19), 4FM, 2XM and Red FM Cork and has even made its way to California, being played on 91X, San Diego. The single release is being followed by gigs in Winthrop Avenue, Cork (Saturday 5th October), Drop Dead Twice, Dublin (Friday 11th October) and The Crane Lane Theatre, Cork (Thursday 17th October).
