Boyfrens is the club-pop project of Dublin-based electronic artist Jack Hevey. Influenced by a wealth of acts from Suicide to Kelela and DJ Technics, he crafts songs with a keen focus on lyrics, texture and flow. With tracks meditating on themes of masculinity, intimacy and relationship dynamics, Boyfrens’ objective is to make listeners feel and move.

As Boyfrens he has released 3 EPs, numerous singles and remixes, an audio/visual mixtape and a couple of live performance videos. He has had tracks featured on several compilation tapes and collaborative projects. Since beginning to release music in 2020 positive reviews and playlisting have followed from the likes of BBC 6 Music, NTS, RTE R1, 2XM and KEXP Seattle.

The project’s live show is geared for the dancefloor, shifting from low-slung 100bpm chuggers to uptempo baltimore club-inspired electropop cuts. His sets take the form of a hybrid-DJ setup, mixing live vocals, guitar, electronics and analogue synths with distorted breaks and plenty of heart.

He has performed at Féile na Gréine, Open Ear and Electric Picnic, and played headline and support gigs across Ireland, England, the Netherlands and Germany.

Interested in the impact that spaces can have on music composition, Hevey has been developing a field-recording practice whereby collected sounds inform the development of tracks and are used to create synthesised patches, leading to the creation of highly personal work with a unique sound palette.

Boyfrens is set to release his first full-length album, ‘Where You Should Be’ on 24/04.
