Playing guitar and writing songs since the age of fifteen, Caoilian Sherlock is well seasoned through years in rock and roll bands such as The Shaker Hymn and The Tan Jackets. He released his debut EP 'The Faraway' under the moniker Saint Caoilian in 2017, on the back of a year of prestigious support shows with Roy Harper, Ryley Walker, Sean O'Hagan, and a tour around Ireland with Joan Shelley and Nathan Salsburg. Coinciding with this tour were shows at Body & Soul, Another Love Story, Sounds From A Safe Harbour, Quiet Lights and It Takes A Village Festivals.
What began as a purist folk project moved into realms of experimentation as he started to record mountains of demos, in the many homes he lived in over a tumultuous few years broadly defined as his “late 20’s”. In 2019, he put together a live band of the best local musicians called The Big Children, to begin recording his first solo album with influences from as far and wide as Willie Nelson to Cate Le Bon and Money Mark. Finally arriving at a place of comfort with his sound, he released a few singles, recorded with Brendan Fennessy (O Emperor). ‘Shades Of You’, ‘Sucker For Love’ and ‘Don’t Let Me Forget About Her’ are charming lo-fi pop songs with infectious choruses., Four tracks from those recording sessions were released on the ‘Big Child’ EP. The debut album will be released on 25th May 2023.
Catch him live the full line up of The Big Children, or sometimes as a duo with his longtime friend and collaborator Leah Hearne. Adding synthesizers and samples into a very organic set up of guitars, drums and lush harmonies, between the group they create a fresh sense of deep comfort and wild abandon simultaneously as heard on his latest release.
"His first solo single allows that raspy sweetness to dominate a song of bright laid-back blues folk" - Irish Times (Single Of The Week)
‘I’ll Be A Fool For You’ is a languid lilting track from a man who clearly has many strings to his bow." - Nialler9
