Flynn Johnson has become a distinctive presence in Irish hip-hop, combining introspective lyricism with sharp cultural commentary. Raised in Blanchardstown, Dublin, he translates his environment and experiences into vivid storytelling and precise rhyme schemes. His work circles the estates, hills and back roads of Dublin 15, turning local detail into songs that resonate far beyond it and marking him out as a compelling voice in contemporary Irish music.
Since releasing his debut EP In The Meantime in 2015, Johnson has built a reputation for honest, reflective writing and a strong sense of place. That development came into sharper focus across recent singles such as “Calen Made Me Do It”, “BLANK’D (feat. dib)” and “MURDER (feat. whoisdays)”, alongside collaborations with artists including Wallfella and Curtisy. His work has earned support from RTÉ 2FM and BBC 1Xtra, while his partnership with O’Neills Sportswear for the Dublin GAA 2025 Alternative Jersey campaign saw him create the spoken-word piece “We Are the Flame”, an ode to Dublin’s cultural memory and identity.
His debut album, THE GREEN BOX THEORY, released on 7 November 2025 via Golden Éire Records, now sits at the centre of his practice. The record fixes Dublin 15 in the mid-to-late 2000s, tracing the “children of the hill” who learn to find beauty in a place others tend to call broken. At its core sits the green electricity box: meeting point, memorial and recurring narrator across the project. Described by Johnson as “a love letter to the estate and a thank-you note for the lessons it taught me”, the album moves between themes of friendship, bravado, rumour, sorrow and survival with a rare level of detail and care.
Live and visual work now carries that world beyond the recordings. From his sold-out headline show at Crowbar Terrace to in-store performances, Live from the Hill, and an upcoming deluxe edition, Flynn Johnson continues to build a body of work rooted in local memory, collaboration and sharp, narrative-driven hip-hop.
