Since their formation eleven years ago, Drogheda three-piece Geriko have forged a distinctive musical repertoire and a dedicated following throughout the North-East. With more than a passing salute to old-style champions of rock’n’roll such as Led Zeppelin and Rory Gallagher and some dance, reggae, blues and funk thrown in for good measure, the Geriko sound can best be described as bawdily pure and blisteringly energetic.
Alongside their own original material – most notably released on 2006 EP Bagfull of Sins – the boys from Geriko have worked steadily providing backing and session music for other Irish artists. Throughout 2008-9, the band worked as backing musicians for singer/songwriter Eugene Donegan on his debut album Little Apples and his subsequent promotional tour. During the same period, they worked extensively with Declan O’Rourke as he toured Ireland.
Geriko perform full electric and acoustic sets at venues large and small, close to home and further afield. Having cut their teeth playing the dives, bars and dancehalls of the North East, Geriko are now regulars at various venues in Drogheda, Dundalk and Navan as well as at larger venues such as Whelan’s, The Spirit Store, Eamon Doran’s, the Voodoo Lounge, Dolan’s Warehouse, Cruiscín Lán (Cork) and the Droichead Arts Centre. They have played an eclectic range of support slots at the Ambassador (Stone Roses Experience), The Spirit Store (The Frank and Walters), McHugh’s (Jerry Fish and the Mudbug Club), Fusion (The Blizzards, Republic of Loose), and the Academy (Declan O’Rourke). Throughout July 2008, Geriko played eight support slots in Holland and Germany for Dublin five-piece Jaded Sun.
The band are currently writing new material for their debut album!
