GRIDRUNNER (Carthage Carroll), is an independent Irish musician and songwriter. His musical training from an early age was classical which he then shelved on discovering electric guitars as a teenager. With indie rock band,’Fiction’ (1996-2001) he toured and charted two independent singles. He went on to attend medical school while maintaining a foothold in music and recording his first album, 'A Different World' under the artist name, ‘Dreamchild’ (2003). Due to medical training and life as a doctor he had less time to commit to music. However he continued to write and in 2010 released his second album ‘The Lost and Found’ under his own name, ‘Carthage’, which was described by Hotpress as ‘ an impressively bowiesque collection’. Neither of these previous two albums were promoted or toured.
'The Ghost of Julius Mayer' is his third album and will be released later this year under the artist name 'GRIDRUNNER’. This album explores the concepts of energy, life, science, spirituality and how they are interconnected. All songs on the album were written by Carthage who also performed all vocals and played acoustic, electric and bass guitars as well as piano and keyboards. The album release will be followed by a tour with all profits going to charity. The first gig will take place in The Sugar Club, Dublin on November 8th in aid of The Peter McVerry Trust for homelessness.
‘The Ghost of Julius Mayer’ was produced by Pat Donne and was recorded across five studios between Dublin and New York. Musicians who also contributed to the new GRIDRUNNER album include guitarist, Anto Drennan (Genesis, The Corrs), bass player Shane Fitzsimons (Damien Rice, Lisa Hannigan) and long time collaborating drummer, Dave Keegan (BellX1, Mundy) while Fergal Davis (Muse, Bitch Falcon) mastered the album. ‘The Ghost of Julius Mayer’ is due for release at the end of October 2018 on double vinyl and all digital platforms worldwide.
