Hank Wedel

Rock // Cork, Cork

Once upon a time...
or maybe many times... I dunno...
Right now, and that's all we got, I'm a well-married, 51 year old father
of four grown up children and, usually, I'm bask in the relative anonymity...
of Cork City, Ireland....
I've never had a major recording or publishing deal but...
I make a life, and a living, from being a full time singer-songwriter, performer
and band leader...
I was born in Dayton, Ohio, USA in 1963 to an Irish mother and an American father...
I lived in NYC with them, and two younger sisters, until 1974
when we all moved to my mother's hometown of Mallow, Co. Cork...
another sister arrived there in 1979...
I went to UCC from '81-'85 to learn to be a high school teacher
but I was busking on the streets of Cork most of that time with like minded hippie friends...
All thru '86-'88 I was involved with two bands in Cork and NYC...
"Open Kitchen" and "Princes Street" ...
We resided in "The Lobby Bar", played live, toured, recorded, put music out,
appeared on radio and TV...
and my life has been a cycle of this pattern ever since...
In 2014, Mandolinist Ray Barron and I celebrated a 20 year residency
of Monday nights at Charlies Bar, Cork City...
I get to play with the best musicians based in Cork, Amsterdam and NYC
and have shared stages and sessions and road with
Declan Sinnott, Kila, Shane McGowan, The Kinks and Bono, to namedrop a few...
You can see evidence of all this if you punch any one of those band names
and/or "Hank Wedel" into any internet search engine you like...
I reckon the media would probably consider my most noteworthy achievement to be
the fact that The Great Irish Folk Singer Christy Moore once covered a song of mine called "Listen"
and even named his 2009 best selling album, on Sony Records, album after that song ...
It certainly is an honour to know Christy be sangin' one of the many songs I wrote...
So there ya have it, if you read down this far,
I'm a well fed white boy from The Northern Hemisphere at the start of The 21st Century
tryin' to make a livin and doin the best I can...
Get in touch...
Arrange to pay me a decent fee and then....
My minstrel friends and I will rock and roll any event you got...
On Sept 24th, 2014, I released a single "So Close"/ "That Was The One" on iTunes
backed by what I'm calling "The Beetle Peyote Band"...interested?...look it up!
