Heron Red is a dynamic folk duo with a full-band sound, blending traditional Irish music with Americana, country, and Traditional folk. Comprised of songwriters Molly Buchan and Callum Wall, the duo crafts music that ranges from stripped-back storytelling—echoing the poetic depth of Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell—to the soaring, full-bodied energy of The Waterboys and Planxty.
Having played renowned venues and festivals across Ireland, from the intimate charm of De Barra’s in Clonakilty, the high ceilings of Cork City Hall, and the legendary Whelan’s in Dublin, Heron Red is now bringing their folk-trad fusion to the festival goers far and wide. With rich harmonies, heartfelt lyrics, and a deep connection to both Irish tradition and global folk/Americana influences, they are a compelling addition to any stage.
Heron Red is a musical project born from the creative spark between two incredible artists, Molly Buchan and Callum Wall. Both are well-known in the Irish indie scene for their successful solo careers and after years of playing in each other’s bands, they decided to team up in the summer of 2024. What started as a way to perform their folk, Irish trad, and singer-songwriter songs quickly gained attention, and before they knew it, they were playing shows every week all across Ireland. As the buzz grew, Molly and Callum knew it was time to take their collaboration seriously, and Heron Red was born.
What makes Heron Red so special is the ever-changing lineup. While they often perform as just the original duo, their performances can range from intimate sets with accompaniment from Irish fiddle and bodhran, to full-band experiences including the lap steel, drums, and bass, depending on the venue and vibe. Every show feels fresh, and it’s this versatility that makes Heron Red’s sound so captivating.
