Rising RnB, HipHop artist Kevon Du'Pri is looking to take the Irish music scene by storm and has all the ingredients to do so. Raised in South Dublin, Kevon Du'pri cut his teeth as a singer and dancer in a hotbed of musical talent nurtured by his local gospel scene. This same scene gave Ireland Hare Squead, Soule, and many of the other bright lights in the Irish musical universe. Now, after years of honing his musicality on percussion for groups like Yankari and Elikya) lending his voice to modern Irish music stalwarts like Olive Hatake and Daryl Bengo, Kevon steps into the spotlight, sharing the new understandings granted to him not only by
maturity but now fatherhood. "Patience" is the latest single from Kevon. A contemplative and poignant homage to the patience and strength of mothers, Kevon decorates a deep bass line and emotive piano with melodic and effortless vocals that dedicate his love and awe to the woman who raised him. The track opens with a sample from the legendary Congolese singer Reddy Amisi, who, in the main language of Congo, Lingala, urges anyone with a mother to treasure her, warning us, "The day she doesn't pick up the phone could be the day you have €1000 in your pocket and realize you have no one as important as her to spend it on."
Kevon himself, as a vocalist and performer, joins a long line of iconic Congolese artists. And it's in the way he floats on the track, delivering his vocals with such passion and charm, that he humbly showcases the years he spent training to become recognized in the tradition of his people as a singer, widely recognized as the most difficult instrument to master in Congolese music. Halfway through, the track features a guest verse from UK via Ireland artist Smilez, who sinks home the reality so many young women face, having to do the job of two parents and the reckoning young men must undergo to know that the circumstances that led to their single-parent household in no way define the
scope of their future. With his new project on the horizon, 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Kevon as he looks to make a splash on the scene.
