Krea

Folk // Bray, Wicklow // She/Her

It has been a whirlwind year for Krea, the stage name adopted by Irish vocalist, harpist, pianist and songwriter, Karen Cowley. Following a hiatus from her band Wyvern Lingo, Krea was awarded the prestigious Music Bursary by the Arts Council, as well as a residency at the renowned Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris. It was during this residency that she dedicated her time to crafting the songs that would make up her debut solo EP, 'The Callows'.

Krea is no stranger to the Irish music scene, having achieved two number one albums as a member of the indie band Wyvern Lingo. Her talent has also led her to collaborate with esteemed Irish artists such as Denise Chaila and Hozier, with whom she featured on the chart-topping duet ‘In A Week’ from Hozier's debut album.

Last year, Krea embarked on her solo journey with the enchantingly serene debut single, ‘September Sun’. This was followed by ‘Last Day of the Year’, a track that received high praise from Hot Press for its fusion of winter comforts and honey-like melodies, and finally, with the release of her debut EP, ‘The Callows’ in July.

As a seasoned performer, Krea has enjoyed both critical acclaim and commercial success as part of Wyvern Lingo. She has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Hozier, Lisa Hannigan, Gemma Hayes, and Wallis Bird, gaining valuable experience and honing her craft.

With ‘The Callows’, Krea invites listeners on a deeply personal and introspective journey, blending her emotive storytelling with captivating melodies. This EP is a remarkable showcase of her talent and a testament to her growth as a solo artist. Krea made her North American debut with an official showcase at Folk Alliance in Kansas City in February and will be opening for Lisa Hannigan in New York City this March at the Irish Arts Center.
