Ryan Cullen, known under the pseudonym “Marcus Woods”, is a 21 year old multi-genre producer from Dublin, Ireland. His production and sounds consist of a fusion of ambient, trap and experimental elements. He is a co-founder of Burner Records, alongside Fynch, ARBU, Sick Nanley and Local Boy.
Influenced by producers such as James Blake, Floating Points, Flume, Skee Mask, Blank Banshee and Andy Stott, Woods aims to find a middle ground in between ambient, lush sounds and hard hitting drum patterns, giving the listener a feeling of serenity, yet keeping them in check with fast paced drums and 808s fused with the atmospheric sounds and textures.
Following support duties for Blank Banshee and a string of singles, Woods released his debut album Self-Portrait on the 28th of August 2020. The album is an abrasive yet lush ambient project that acts as a soundtrack for the 16 month production period, with concepts of self identity, sleep deprivation and anxiety spanned across the 43 minutes of sounds and sonics.
