Mike Carty

Alternative // Ballinasloe/Athlone, Roscommon

Mike hails from the rural setting of Moore in the County of Roscommon, situated between the towns of Athlone and Ballinasloe. Self taught on guitar, He began composing and writing his own songs in his late teens. His music has a folk/alternative/rock feel with a mix of catchy upbeat tunes and melancholy ballads. He performed with the cover band 'Unleaded' with College friends in 2006 and following that he formed the acoustic two-piece 'Catch a Fire' with Joel Shields. In the last year, Mike has begun taking part in singer-songwriter and original nights countrywide to promote his music; he has even played support to bands such as Miracle Bell and performed in venues such as the Roisin Dubh and the National Concert Hall. In 2011 Mike recorded his debut Solo E.P 'Lost Lights' in Lakeland studios, Athlone. The E.P is set for release in the coming month and contains four tracks which are sure to make any listener sit up and take notice. Comparisons of Mike are often drawn to other Irish artists such as Damien Rice, Declan O'Rourke and Mundy.
