mokusla is the musical alter ego of the Donegal-born visual artist Lou Rowland.
Inspired by the Gaelic Mo Chuisle (my darling), the Glasgow-based singer and producer invites you into her ethereal and haunting world, blending ambient dream-pop, electronic and traditional folk.
Her debut EP 'you don't know what you're missing' released in October 2022, gained significant airplay on BBC Introducing Scotland, BBC Radio Ulster, BBC Radio Foyle & local radio stations.
mokusla was then 1 of 4 artists awarded the Hen Hoose x PRS mentorship in 2023 working with Tamara Schlesinger and Susan Bear of Hen Hoose. 2023 also saw mokusla perform with Sofar Sounds, Flos Collective at the Govanhill International Festival and open for the acclaimed MALKA on the Glasgow leg of her tour. mokusla has since been honing on her immersive live performances, opening for artists such as the acclaimed Lemoncello & Alas de Liona as well as joining 432’s First Footing & Endless Summer line ups.
Since 2023 mokusla has also produced and hosted the radio show 'Síscéal' with artist Kerry Boyd for Radio Buena Vida that explores ambient, folk & traditional music and mythology.
Supported by Help Musicians, mokusla returns in 2024 with her second project ‘lovely people here, but it’s just not the same’ due in October, exploring the ebb and flow of long distance friendships. The 4-track EP is a celebration of true friendship, written at a time of feeling lost, craving old connections and a deep sense of nostalgia. It’s first single ‘ghost’ releases August 14th 2024.
