Bio Short:
Moving Still is Jamal Sul - a Jeddah-born, Dublin-based DJ and producer with releases on Nail Shop, Orange Tree, Jive Hive and Dar Disku. His edits have charged the sets of high-profile DJs, topped the Rush Hour sales charts, and made his own Dublin Digital Radio and Radio Al Hara shows a portal to untold musical riches.
Bio Long:
A veteran DJ on the Dublin scene, he made his debut as an artist with his mixtape for Irish collective wherethetimegoes in 2016. With support from Resident Advisor, his debut EP With Oud was released by Nail Shop Records in March 2019. His collaboration with Bahraini label Dar Disku Records also began in 2019, with his bass-heavy edit of wedding classic Bas Ismaa Meny and infectious disco floor-filler Sidi Mansour (Moving Still Edit) which took the festival circuit by storm. Premiered by Mixmag, it has been featured in sets by Palms Trax, Hunee, Skatebård, Nabihah Iqbal and Esa Williams, and landed on countless best-of lists for 2019.
In 2020, he returned with vinyl-only EP 'Inta Min Feen?' on Orange Tree Edits. Some track titles provide a response to the question posed by the EP title (translated as "where are you from?"), such as B1 'I'll Tell You For A Tenner'. The A1 edit 'Bint Al Sa7ra' was dropped in his hometown of Dublin by Skatebård at a Boiler Room set, and has been labeled as an enormous track by the punters. He closed off the year with another Dar Disku release, this time an italo-esque edit of Egyptian pop star Azza Kamal's 'Maadna Bkra', in collaboration with Dutch producer Tjade. The vinyl-only release has been featured in a Grand Theft Auto Online set by Palms Trax and reached #1 in Rush Hour's best sellers chart.
Moving Still welcomed 2021 with his EP Tafadal تفضل released on Jive Hive Records. Taking its sonic roots from the Saudi-African dance tradition of the Mizmar, Tafadal blends acid basslines with traditional percussive patterns, taking us into a new, yet uninhabited realm. He recently collaborated with Nermin and LA based record label Discostan on an edits EP and delivered two dazzling cosmic disco edits. He then self-released three Egyptian edits for a freebie EP called Ouddy Bangers Vol.1. which got some love from Mixmag and Minitel magazines and has gained a broader audience following an extensive feature in DJ Mag by Gabriel Szatan, a feature by clothing label Patta and an interview in the Irish Examiner by Mike McGrath Bryan.
