2022 was a breakthrough year for Dublin-based artist Neil Dexter. His critically acclaimed debut album, I’ll Be Ready was a brilliantly assured body of work that announced Dexter’s infectious and immersive arrangements. Drawing from an eclectic range of influences, from Peter Gabriel to Perfume Genius, Dexter’s solo material seamlessly melds his classically-trained voice with kaleidoscopic art-pop motifs, culminating in a thoroughly singular style. Described by The Irish Times as “music formed not with stereotypical bells and whistles but with painstakingly designed soundscapes,” this is a testament to the masterful production across the record. Meanwhile, HotPress noted that Dexter’s debut was “a very fine statement of intent from an outstanding Irish talent.”
Following the release of the LP, Dexter shared a remix of the title track by Limerick-based producer, Royal Yellow. Neil Dexter brought I’ll Be Ready to life on stage towards the end of last year, selling-out his debut headline show in Dublin’s Workman’s Cellar. Along with his five-piece band, he closed out the year by joining Soda Blonde on their nationwide tour. These early live shows effectively translated I’ll Be Ready’s vibrant world to the stage with an impressive set design and energetic band.
