‘Midnight Showing’ is the debut offering from new Irish band, neptune blood.
A new and yet nostalgic sound, ‘Midnight Showing’ is a sure-footed stomping track with distorted baritone guitars and a pulsing rhythm, combined with near ethereal vocals.
The song is Inspired by the infamous unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short in LA in 1947, nicknamed as the Black Dahlia by the newspapers of the time. It’s believed Short had moved to Hollywood to pursue fame through a career in acting, but ironically found it through her brutal demise.
The video compliments this soundtrack with visuals of motion pictures of the 1920s, most likely films that Short herself had seen and had inspired her to be on the silver screen. The “Golden Age” of cinema, where women were idolised & objectified, through the lens of a leering male gaze.
neptune blood are a Limerick-based sextet, who’ve honed their respective crafts in various outfits throughout the years, in order to bring this musical melting pot of influences, and intend to leave the music to speak for itself.
‘Midnight Showing’ is out now.
