Ninegauge

Rock // Belmullet, Mayo

Ninegauge are a new Pop/Rock band based in Belmullet, Co. Mayo, consisting of brothers Dez and Rob Harrington. Originally known as 'Full Tilt', they learned their trade as a cover band playing all over North Mayo since 2007, covering songs by bands as diverse as Deep Purple, The Darkness, AC/DC, Feeder, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Queen, Eagles, Oasis, Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, Pink Floyd, and Dream Theater.

Because they began life as a cover band, their music is influenced by a wide variety of styles of music. This is reflected in their album which draws from many different genres, including Pop/Rock, Blues, Country Rock, Classical, and Progressive music.

Ninegauge have a fresh, new attractive sound which is geared predominantly towards a young audience. Songs like 'LOL', 'Weekend', 'Star Wars Girl' and 'Put it up on YouTube' reflect this, while a slightly older audience is catered for with a couple of introspective ballads, 'Crazy' and 'Love is for Fools.' On the album they have also included a Blues number, an interesting instrumental track and a 12-minute Progressive Metal song 'The March.'

Ninegauge are quite distinctive in the Pop/Rock genre by being unusually focused on musicianship. This is demonstrated in the interesting harmonised guitar/keyboard parts that are found in songs such as 'LOL' and 'Asylum in my Mind', as well as numerous solos throughout the album. They believe that there is a thirst in today's music market for a band which is more focused on instrumental skills than the usual Pop/Rock band.

Lyrically Ninegauge vary from instantly appealing, to deep and thoughtful, to humorous.
