PHOENO

Indie // Dublin, Dublin

Born in stillness, shaped by time, and forged in the cold - Comfort in the Knowing, the debut album from Dublin band PHOENO, is a record defined by reflection, endurance, and quiet transformation.

In the silence of lockdown, when Dublin stood still, vocalist Adam Matthews and composer Liam Corbett - the creative core of PHOENO - found themselves, like much of the world, paused. In those uncertain days, the pair began running together through the Phoenix Park. With the city hushed and the future unclear, these runs became a creative refuge. Conversations turned into ideas; ideas became themes; and slowly, a sonic and emotional landscape began to take shape.

From those early mornings and late nights emerged the foundation of Comfort in the Knowing - an album that explores isolation, men’s inner lives, friendship, family, loss, grief, hope, love, and the fragile but powerful possibility of renewal.

Determined to realise this vision, Matthews and Corbett rented a small industrial unit tucked away in the back roads of Dublin 15. Bitterly cold and unforgiving, the space quickly earned its nickname: The Fridge. Over the next six years, the duo worked in near seclusion - writing, experimenting, pre-recording, and patiently building the world that would become their debut record. It was here, in this stark and frozen room, that the emotional core and sonic identity of PHOENO was fully realised.

The album was later brought to completion across the Irish Sea, recorded between Oxford and London, produced by Richie Kennedy at Assault and Battery Studios, and ultimately mixed by John Catlin in London. The result is a deeply atmospheric and emotionally resonant body of work - intimate in its storytelling, yet expansive in its sound.

Comfort in the Knowing will be released on March 27 across all digital platforms.
PHOENO will mark the occasion with a special live launch on April 11 at Lost Lane, Dublin, bringing the journey of the album full circle - from quiet isolation to a shared moment of celebration.
