Problem Patternss

Punk // Belfast, Antrim // She/Her

Problem Patterns is a four-piece feminist queerpunk band from Belfast, Northern Ireland, comprised of Beverley Boal, Bethany Crooks, Ciara King and Alanah Smith.

The band does not have a singular front person, opting instead to switch roles and instruments, to ensure each member in the group has a voice. While often lyrically tongue in cheek, they use their music as a form of catharsis. Most importantly, Problem Patterns aim to create a space of inclusivity and hope, for both themselves and the listener.

Formed in November 2018, their debut single, “Allegedly”, was recorded and released within their first month together. They released their debut EP, ‘Good For You, Aren’t You Great?’ in July 2019. In 2020, they released “Big Shouty”, accompanied by a DIY music video shot individually by the band themselves.

Known for their ferocious live performances, the band were nominated for Best Live Act at the Northern Ireland Music Prize in 2020, alongside two consecutive nominations for the Oh Yeah Contender Award in 2019 and 2020. They have played notable support slots for Queen Zee and JOHN. They have received acclaim from the likes of KEXP and punk icon Kathleen Hanna.

Problem Patterns have been part of multiple notable compilations, including ‘'The Fight Is Not Over' by Third Bar, ‘A Litany Of Failures’ and ‘Bangers & Mash Ups’, the latter being a charity compilation that the band curated in support of She Sells Sanctuary.

“Their currency is excitement, amazing gigs, smarts, screaming, politics and empowerment. Is there a better band in Belfast than Problem Patterns?” - Betsy Bailie, Dig With It

“A cathartic slice of feminist punk.” - Get In Her Ears
