Reko are a Kilkenny based new hot-tipped up and coming band who have hit the Irish music scene with a bang! This four piece consisting of Stephanie Coady (vocals), Kevin Broderick (bass/guitar), Aine Mahony (keyboards) and Paul Hindle (drums), have already received rave reviews from right across the board.
Listening to their catchy tunes you can't help but tap your foot and bust a groove! Their flair for writing what could be described as electro/pop has them being compared to the likes of La Roux, The Prodigy and even the Yeah Yeah Yeahs!
Stop My Eyes is the debut single from Reko, who have already been making big noise in the Irish music industry, in recent months the band have played numerous gigs, with some of the biggest groups around, including The View, Paolo Nutini, Noise Control and French new kids Fortune to name but a few.
A psychical copy of Stop My Eyes was self released in April 2010, in its first week it reached number 50 in the Irish single charts. Upon hearing Reko play Stop My Eyes during Arthur’s Day, Universal Music Ireland opted to sign a one song digital download deal with Reko. Stop My Eyes was rerecorded, and rereleased by Universal in Sept 2010 as a digital download on all major download sites. This fired Reko in to the iTunes electronic music charts straight away, at number 7, then number 5. Two weeks later Reko found themselves at Number 1, for several days, beating the likes of Hot Chip, Faithless and The Prodigy.
Reko were also successful in reaching the final of Guinness’ Arthur’s Day competition, making it to the top in a competition featuring over 5000 bands.
However, the bands biggest success to date was featuring on the cover of HOTPRESS, following their success in the Arthur’s Day competition.
Reko have recorded a live session for 2FM, which has been aired on the Dan Hegarty Show last year. They have also been busy recently recording their album in Sun studios in temple bar, Dublin.
