Rough Sunday

Acoustic // Ballyvourney, Cork

Rough Sunday are the songrwiting duo Amhlaoibh McSweeney & Diarmuid Wolfe, two young musicians from the West Cork Gaeltacht.

Their music of course does all the talking, but a background check reveals that they have achieved a local reputation as quick-witted, sensitive music-makers and wordsmiths, using nothing but their naturally-accented voices and their two acoustic guitars. Their music is a thesis of their lives thus far, an exploration and explosion of youth, escapism and aspiration, the manifesto of two promising talents doing the simple things right.

Producing a wholly original sound which escapes the remit of better known genres, Rough Sunday’s music takes the communal energy of a Corkonian Saturday night session, mixes in some youthful Punk Rock antics, laces it with colloquial poetry and knocks it all out with smiles that playfully suggest
‘we-know-something-you-don’t-know-ha-ha-ha’.

So far their music has brought them from bar to birthday parties the country over, their outings of note being their performance at Electric Picnic in 2017, in the same year they were named editor’s choice on Balcony TV and a recent trip to Germany saw them bring the roof down in a medieval castle (a long story for another time).

If you don’t fall for the music you’ll fall for the energy; Rough Sunday are not a band to be missed!
