SisterMonk is female powered,Djembe driven music based in NYC and is described by The New York Music Daily as : “slinky, undulating, wickedly danceable punk-infused funk and Middle Eastern-inspired jams. There’s no band in New York anything like them.”

SisterMonk performs regularly underground (as members of MTA's Music Under New York program) and at various venues around New York City, such as Bowery Electric, The Mercury Lounge, and Rockwood Hall. They also tour Nationally during the Festival season and have long been a favorite at Seattle 'Folk Life', and most recently played Lincoln Center Summer Music in the Park , Yasgur's Farm Woodstock Reunion, Montclair Center stage and WAMFEST as well as being the featured performer at the David Bouley Solstice!

The band has recently been featured in The Village Voice for their performance in Make Music New York Festival. They also recently double billed with Gogol Bordello at the Space in Westbury in L.I.
SisterMonk has shared the stage with such notable acts as Zap Mama, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Anoushka Shankar, Mario Batali ( at Greenspace NYNPR), and more.
