Smithereens was born in February of 2024. it was 'UCC Battle of the Bands' season, and after spending the last year playing together in a local cover band doing college balls and pub gigs, Sammy, Isaac and Noah decided to write a couple songs and compete in the competition. They swiftly realised their songs were more than just fun ideas but the beginning of a deep and meaningful artistic adventure.
Once victory was secured, the boys got to work writing more material and working on their set so that they could bring something exciting and authentic to the stage. Within a year (and with the help of some good friends) they recorded and released two singles both of which were on their debut EP 'Emergency Entrance' and launched said project to a sold out Kino Event House in Cork.
Throughout 2025 Smithereens began to really take shape. after some members went a different direction and we had to say our goodbyes, Darach became our Sax/Rhythm guitar in February and he came with us on our first national tour playing venues such as Cyprus Avenue, Kasbah in Dolans, Roisin Dubh, Debarras and Whelans. We worked as a 4 piece throughout the summer where we made our debut on the Festival Circut at Forbidden Fruits and Féile Solas but after a while felt like we needed another lift, so in August we welcomed another friend of ours Gavin to join on lead guitar and things started to feel better than ever. Soon after, we played to a Sold out St Lukes here in Cork city for Jazz Weekend. Since then we've played our first international gig in Next Door Records in London and Fully recorded our next EP. From the very beginning, Smithereens has been all about having fun and we have found no better way than writing together and sharing that music with everyone. we believe our music will speak for itself and what really sets us apart is our work ethic.
