Spearside

Punk // Trim, Meath

Spearside are lead by brothers Oisín and Cian Walsh, joined by Tomasz Nowakowski on drums. They produce all of their music from their own home-studio in Trim, Ireland.

In a recent interview featured in SPIN’s 40th Anniversary print edition, Lily Moayeri writes that the band’s recent releases mark the “beginning of a more defined sound”, which she describes as “a cross between Queens of the Stone Age and Pinkerton-era Weezer.”

Making waves at home and away, Spearside have found allies in the likes of Steve Lamacq of BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Foyle’s Mickey Bradley of The Undertones and BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders.

Elsewhere tastemaker titles such as Blowtorch Records, Hot Press, The GOO, Golden Plec, The Irish Times, RTÉ, S.W Lauden, Eamon Carr, Simon Williams and Dave Bell have all shown their support.

Spearside are quickly carving out a space for themselves in the colourful, guitar driven underground scene in Ireland.

Drawing on classic influences such as Teenage Fanclub, Ash, and The Saints alongside the new wave of melody driven bands bursting through the hardcore underground such as Fiddlehead, Superheaven, and GUV, Spearside seek to bolster a guitar driven sound that is forever old and forever new.
