While live performances have been sporadic since their formation 3 years ago, Dublin based band The Black Captain have still managed to add notches The Mercantile, The Academy, The workman’s club and Whelan’s of Wexford Street to their musical headboard. The band have supported up and coming Irish acts Rooftop Anthem & Keywest and were featured in 2XM’s Best of Irish show for 2013 for their first recording ‘Calling to you’ . Completing their debut EP titled ‘The Black Captain’ has been the main focus for the past 9 months and the band now have plans to take their unique sound to the masses.
The band are Paul Rock (Songwriter , Vocals and Guitar) , Alan Lynch (Drums) , Gemma O’Brien (Vocals) and Dermot Hagan (Keyboards) and with a catalogue of over 20 original songs influenced by love, loss and hope there is definitely something here for everyone. The band appeal to a wide-ranging audience of young and old and have a song-writing style that offers the perfect soundtrack to everything from a lazy Sunday to a festival sing-along. Whilst the main bulk of songs are written by paul the arrangements are very much a team effort with each member calling on their unique individual influences and ideas to create something truly memorable.
Releasing the EP has been a massive step for The Black Captain who are looking forward to getting back to what they love most, playing live. With an ever expanding set list the music never fails to get people on their feet and singing along; this four piece are looking forward to a bright future.
