The Black Strands

The Black Strands emerged on the Dublin music scene in May 2010. Initially a collaboration between Nathan and John, they teamed up with long-term friends Simon, Mark and Will. Dissatisfied with the local scene they decided to merge their wide influences to create a fresh take on the alternative underground scene with an emphasis on dark-tinged psychedelic shoegaze. By making their rehearsal space a second home they found their unique sound through their own extensive recordings. The band caught the eye of resident engineer in Grouse Lodge Studios, Colin Murphy. This was followed up with a productive session in Sun Studios, Temple Bar where two tracks were recorded over four days. In order to create the ethereal, mammoth wall of sound in a live setting, the band employ an arsenal of three guitarists to maximum effect. Over the past twelve months the band has gained live experience playing Irish, UK and European gigs. A key focus over the next year is to capture the sonic assault and fuelled aggression of their gigs. Another priority is to record an album that showcases their unique talent of light and dark sounds.
