The Flavours exploded onto the Cork live music scene on their inception in 2018, with a sound heavily influenced by classic soul, funk and indie rock. From a variety of musical backgrounds, the band developed their own unique sound in Julian’s front room, with cousins Julian Power and Jordan Roche forming the backline on bass and drums respectively, complimenting the guitar playing of Jordan Devlin and the mesmerising vocals of Ella Compton. They have released two studio EPs to date: 'Send It' in 2019 and '(The) Love Life' in 2020.
A covid enforced break and ultimately the decision to scrap a lot of recorded studio material in late 2020 marked a turning point for the band. A sold-out show at Winthrop Avenue and an appearance at Sligo's Wild Roots in the Park in late 2021 marked the The Flavours' return to their exhilarating live best, backed up by a headline show at Cyprus Avenue the following month. Further headline slots at the Everyman Palace Theatre in Cork and at the Heineken Battle of the Bands in Listowel were followed by a festival debut at Wild Roots in Sligo in July 2022. The year was closed out with final headline shows in Cork and Dublin to coincide with the release of their single ‘Race To The Heart’, as well as a run of shows at the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival trail.
Their first release of 2023 'Other Song' was released on the 23rd of January. Produced by Chris O'Brien (The Waterboys, Clannad, Aslan), the track was named as Hot Press Magazine's 'Single of the Day' as well as gaining attention from written publications such as Nialler9, Goldenplec and RTE Entertainment, while receiving airplay across numerous local radio stations in Ireland.
