The Savage Jim Breen

The Savage Jim Breen are 4 songwriter musicians who decided in 2005 to bring their respective individual instruments, songs, voices, and experiences together in the hope of becoming a greater whole.
Like some hairy, rough around the edges feral second cousin to Captain Planet, “with our powers combined we become The Savage Jim Breen”!

Our album Awake was released in 2015 and has enjoyed a steady following over the last couple of years. The album has been a wonderful vehicle in which to combine and entwine our respective experiences through music. It’s akin to a car on a long journey with 4 hitch hikers sharing a lift. It’s raining outside and the 4 hitchers are getting on great..

We have spent the last few years playing gigs throughout the country under the umbrella of the great outdoor festivals like the Electric Picnic, The Green Man (Wales), Townslands and Bare. Whilst ducking under cover for the more intimate nights of music found at the Rhythm and Roots festival (Kilkenny),and in the music rooms up and down the country.

Our aim with our music is to create a space where 4 defined voices can be heard and harmonize, whilst telling a tale of living in a 21st Ireland..all tucked into a musical bed of rhythm and roots folk.

We are James Haughey, Greg Breen, Manus O Crualaioch and James Savage. Between us you will hear, vocals harmonious, guitars, bass, bouzouki, citern and a pulse of percussion.

We look forward to meeting the musicians and listeners at the gigs ahead, and with the new songs building up, our next album has begun it’s slow cook..
