The Supermarkets were formed as a way of keeping in touch across countries. Mark Cantan in Dublin and Thomas Forshaw in Scotland then England then Denmark, would email song ideas and snippets to each other and pieced them together, getting together once or twice a year to lay down tracks with a €10 computer microphone.
They recorded four albums together before playing their first and only ever gig in 2018.
The production values have slowly improved over the years and the number of callaborators has increased too. Aoife Moore, Bryan O'Connell, Sam Kavanagh, Pierre Beauguitte, Sean Flaherty, Deirdre Thompson and Kelly O'Doherty all feature on various tracks on their fifth album "What Now".
