Torann (Drums/Drummers)
A short piece about Torann, followed by where they’ve been over the years...
Torann have been playing together since early 2002, getting together from the ashes of various other bands, groups and solo projects, with the aim to make noise and throw shapes.
With so many different tastes within the group, it was, and still is, very difficult to put a genre on their sound. It doesn’t fall into the expected categories of 'drumming groups', with ideas and influence coming from all over. The image you have in your head right now is not what this group is. The sound has been variously described as Tribal, Rock, Techno, Celtic, Drum’n’Bass and Contempory Irish.
Over the years, the band has toured around Ireland, the UK and Poland, bringing their sound to crowds ranging in age from 1 to 100. Everyone is automatically drawn to the sound of a drum, the trick is in keeping them, and Torann have learned how. Whether it’s streets at 12.30pm in a light drizzle, clubs at 2am, weddings for that ‘something different’, in front of 4 or 40,000, everyone throws odd shapes, smiles/gurns and has superfun times at a Torann show (vast swathes of audience will testify to that)
One of the unique aspects of this group is just that – they are unique. There is no other band out there, doing what they do. They have created a little niche for themselves; something that not everyone has seen just yet, but enough have that, no matter where they play, people come up afterwards, having seen them at a music or street festival, club or wedding. It is highly likely that someone you know has seen Torann somewhere.
The Near Future!
An EP release is planned for early 2013, followed by an album later in the year. The group are in the midst of arranging the summer 2013 calendar, so let’s see where they end up.
