Unknown Dream is the music project of Spanish-Canadian songwriter Alvaro Rubio. On his ambitious debut album, Rubio takes a wide range of influences, such as the baroque pop of Brian Wilson, the otherworldly textures of Animal Collective, and the creepiness of internet micro-genre "weirdcore," to paint a warped and uncanny description of childhood nostalgia.
The album ends with the highlight 'Imaginary Friends', an experimental, nightmare-fueled cut that sheds the hypnagogic-pop bliss of the previous tracks and reveals a darker nature behind the album. Other highlights include the diverse genre palette of ‘Biking’ and the sunshine-pop of ‘You Can’t See Me’.
A growing online presence through short form content has seen Unknown Dream grow a small but loyal fanbase in the last few months.
New album ‘Do You Hear the Colors?’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
