“Irish artist Lauren Hannan, better known as YINYANG, continues to establish herself as one of the most distinctive and exciting artists in recent memory. Her subversive and blisteringly cutting edge sound is without peer, crafting punk-edged hip-hop that drips with an effortless sense of composure and cool among her controlled chaos.” - CLOUT
“YINYANG is a force to be reckoned with. The Irish hip hop riser refuses to bow down to the rules, a brave and singular voice with a punk-like sense of rebellion.” - CLASH
YINYANG is a fierce frenzy of hip hop, rap, electronic and alternative styles blending as if they’ve been waiting to synthesize, but she’s sweet you’d still take her home to meet your mum.
Born in London lockdown by Co. Antrim bred Lauren Hannan, who taught herself how to produce music to cultivate a unique sound that hits different. Expect heavy 808s, genre-bending riffs and intricate, idiosyncratic lyrics to make you dive deep into your mind, in a playful and catchy way.
Influenced by strong female artists like Little Simz, Sampa The Great, Ash Nikko, M.I.A and film influences from Quentin Tarantino, YINYANG has mastered the art of blending emotion with instruments so you feel the subject of the song, and using wit to highlight her own relatable shortcomings.
YINYANG has achieved electric success so far, with tracks being played on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 and BBC Introducing. Happy Money was shortlisted for the BBC Introducing Live Lounge series.
In April 2022, YINYANG and Enola Gay sold out The Windmill Brixton two nights in a row, this was YINYANG’s first live show. In a year she has gone on to sell out Ulster Sports Club in Belfast twice, with another sold out show coming up at the end of March. She has played alongside artists like XVOTO, Nukuluk, Dos Monos, Chalk, Enola Gay, Le Boom, Ruti.
YINYANG will be headlining stage two of two different festivals this summer in Ireland, Friday Fest and United Tribes Festival. She has two releases due in 2023 as well as collaborations with other artists such as Enola Gay and YARD that she has co-produced and written.
Hot Press labeled her as Hot for 2023, she has begun to work with Irish Booking Agent Singular Artists, and Sentric for publishing.
The rapid growth and potential is astounding for a DIY solo artist, with the exception of extra production and mixing by Tom Cane (Gorgon City, George Fitzgerald), Iain Berryman (Wolf Alice, Beabadoobee), Freddy Sheed (Lewis Capaldi, The Japanese House) and Hinako Omori.
